Antique Swedish Tables and Consoles Tables
We always look for 3 types of antique table – painted gustavian and country ones, French polished Biedermeier tables with ormulu detailing and figured show woods and later Art Deco tables that often feature Greco roman style inlays.
Each has its own merits and creates an entirely different ambiance in your home. Sizes of Swedish antique tables vary widely depending on the use to which they were put and they come in a variety of shapes with carved decoration and gesso work, rosettes and fluted legs or central urn bases, drop leaf extensions or hand inlaid marquetry designs. Interestingly you wont find English style low coffee tables in Sweden.
It’s the Swedish tradition to sit around a table with afternoon coffee rather than perch on a sofa next to a 40cm high one. So that’s why Swedish antique tables are generally between 60-85cm tall.
