About Swedish Interior Design
Swedish Interior Design was founded in 2005 from a genuine love of Swedish antiques and the calm, elegant interiors they help to create. What began as a fascination with the restrained beauty of Gustavian furniture, the warmth of Swedish Biedermeier and the sculptural character of Mora clocks gradually developed into a specialist business serving private clients, collectors and interior designers around the world.
For more than twenty years, we have personally sourced antique and vintage furniture in Sweden, building long-standing relationships and developing the experience needed to recognise pieces with real character. We look beyond fashion and passing trends. The furniture we choose must have beautiful proportions, sound craftsmanship and a presence that will continue to give pleasure for many years.
Our Specialist Knowledge
Our collection focuses on antique Swedish Mora clocks, Gustavian furniture, Swedish Biedermeier and selected Art Deco pieces. These different styles each have their own history and personality. Gustavian furniture is admired for its elegant neoclassical lines, carved detail and softly painted finishes. Swedish Biedermeier is known for its architectural forms and beautifully figured birch and mahogany veneers. Mora clocks bring height, individuality and a distinctly Swedish decorative quality to an interior.
Years of handling these antiques have given us a detailed understanding of their construction, finishes, restoration needs and practical use. We assess each piece individually rather than relying on a simple label or age. We consider its proportions, materials, structure, surface, previous restoration and overall decorative quality before it is offered for sale.
How We Choose and Prepare Our Antiques
Every item is personally selected. We do not buy large quantities simply to fill a warehouse or website. We choose pieces that we would be happy to live with ourselves: furniture with warmth, individuality and a sense of history.
Once a piece arrives with us, it is carefully examined. Antique furniture naturally carries signs of age and use, and we believe these should be respected rather than erased. Our approach is to preserve original veneers, surfaces, decorative details and patina wherever possible, while ensuring that each piece is structurally sound and suitable for continued use.
We have our own talented specialist restorer and upholsterer on staff. Where appropriate, we can arrange professional restoration, repolishing, repainting, bespoke finishing and reupholstery before delivery for an additional cost. Any proposed work is discussed with the client first, and a clear quotation is provided before anything is undertaken. For reupholstery, the customer supplies the fabric, and we advise on the quantity required.
Our aim is never to make an antique look newly manufactured. A successful restoration should revive the beauty of the piece while preserving its character, history and individuality.

Swedish Interior Design is an enquiry-led catalogue rather than an automated online shop. Buying an antique is a personal decision, and there are often important questions to discuss before purchase, including condition, measurements, colour, restoration, upholstery and delivery.
We are always happy to provide detailed condition information, additional photographs, close-up images, measurements and video viewings. We can help compare different pieces, advise whether an item will suit a particular space and discuss any practical work that may be required.

Worldwide Delivery
We regularly arrange secure delivery throughout the UK and international shipping to the USA, Europe, Australia and worldwide. We work with experienced specialist furniture transporters and antique shippers, with professional packing and export crating where required.
Delivery is quoted individually according to the item and destination. We provide a clear quotation in advance and remain available throughout the process, from the first enquiry until the antique arrives safely at its new home.
