Transfering pictures onto cushions … sitting pretty …..
Interior Design Ideas
There are so many ways that you can change the feel of a room … one way is to add beautiful transfers to plain cushions …. you can do it yourself : first a few steps on how to do it yourself ….
I found a great method for hand printing on line which involves transfering photos to fabric without using iron-on sheets
You need the fabric, (plain white cotton is a good start) and a Gel based Medium Liquidex is good … Then all you need is a paint brush and the image you want to transfer. You can use Photo copied image or even better an image from a vintage magazine or newspaper. Do remember that if your image has words on it you will need to reverse it before copying or the words will print backwards onto your cushion. You’ll also need a spray bottle filled with water.
To transfer the photo to your fabric….. Completely cover your image with a heavy coat of gel medium ….. Press it onto a piece of fabric and let it dry for several hours or overnight…. After your image is completely dry, use a spray bottle to wet the top of the paper. …. and rub the surface with your fingers until pieces of the paper start coming off. When pieces start coming up your image will be revealed. Some pieces come up easily in clean strips and some are more time consuming to remove. Be careful not to rub too hard as this can remove your transfer as well. Continue until all the paper is removed and the image is completely visable! If you want to display your fabric (for example if you are transfering to a canvas for your wall) you might want to add one more coat of gel medium to protect and seal your image.
