Define your Mood

What do you want to feel in your bedroom? — everything else (the colors, materials & lighting) will be dictated by that feeling.

Choose Your Color Scheme

Colour is key to setting up the vibe you want – restful and relaxing, vibrant & uplifting and so on.

  • Soft neutrals (beige, cream, gray) are relaxing.

  • Deep rich colour tones (navy, forest green) create a moody and intimate setting.

  • Pastels (dusty pink, soft blue) provide an airy and dreamy place of rest.

  • Remember to keep the colours cohesive and supportive of each other in pursuit of your overall concept.

Invest in your Bed

  • Its all about the mattress so get the best one you can afford

  • Choose a bedframe that matches your design style – Gustavian, Biedermeier, Modern, French Country.

  • Do you want a plain, decorative or upholstered headboard?

Get the Lighting right

  • Use Overhead light that is soft and dimmable so you can change the feeling of the room easily.

  • Bedside lamps should have warm bulbs or even LED smart lights you can control with your voice if thats your thing.

  • Its fun to use fairy lights or coloured LED strips behind the bed for atmosphere and have a small reading sconce for spot lighting.

Storage

Very important – you have lots of stuff but lets make storing a pleasure in the eye.

  • Use under-bed drawers which are out of site but makes use of the wasted space under the bed.

  • A pair of bed side tables gives great symmetry to the look.

  • A small bench or trunk at the foot of the bed (for looks + storage).

Personal Touches

  • Its your safe space so add art pieces or beautiful things that give you joy.

  • Plants add sparkle to a space giving you oxygen and energy.

  • Place your favorite books, scented candles and other vibe enhancers around the room

Clutter-Free

  • Less is always more. Its your safe space so keep it clear.

  • Only put meaningful items in your space – no ‘stuff’.

8Textures Matter

  • Mix up the feels in the room: crisp cotton, soft velvet, chunky knit throws, smooth wood & woven baskets.

9. Remember the Importance of Scent and Sound

  • Use a scent diffuser with essential oils, scented candles and calming scents like lavender or sandalwood.

  • Music music music!
