new antique swedish furniture stock for august 14
We are always on the look out for interesting swedish antiques to add to our collection. They might be biedermeier, art deco, gustavian or jugent furniture or mora clocks.
We don’t normally stock later swedish modern pieces but heres a 1960s round chair that really took my fancy. It has a very cool look and is very comfy to sit in. It reminds me of the UK 1960s TV series UFO in style. Very commander straker!
Our antique biedermeier sofas are always very popular as they have beautiful construction and craftsmanship. They have either webbed bench seats or fully sprung seats for maximum comfort and lots of lovely detailing especially in the curly golden birch and elm veneers that are used.
Their style means they work really well in both modern interiors and classic period settings. Its really down to the fabric or leather that you choose to use. A regency stripe or plain linen will give the sofa a timeless feel whereas a madder modern fabric really changes it up.
Here’s a biedermeier sofa we upholstered for a client in burberry tartan – really great look! See how the colour strands in the tartan really bring out the essence of the golden birch as a harmonious whole.
Leather is always a popular alternative – we only use the best quality italian leather hides – expensive but worth it if you want the leather to age nicely and have that soft but firm feel.
Again when teamed with leather double piping it creates a really great modern chic look. The leather colour is ‘stone’ which is a perfect match for the light honey stain of the golden biorch veneers on this sofa.
Here’s a rare pair of biedermeier club chairs in really great condition – you can see how the style is heading towards the later art deco styling and they have top quality golden birch veneers and v comfy webbed seats
