New Swedish Antiques- Gustavian|Mora Clocks|Biedermeier|Rocking Horse

As always we scour Sweden for interesting and tantalising Swedish antique sofas, tables, chairs, armchairs and mora clocks to offer you.

It can be hit and miss as most of our antique pieces come from private sellers but we keep our ear to the ground and are usually lucky enough to snap up the best antiques available.

So what do we have coming to the UK on 21st april?

Antique Biedermeier Chest of Drawers - from around 1840 and in good condition. This commode has 3 drawers and top grade golden birch quilted veneers with ormulu presentation. Its really hard now to find lovely Biedermeier chests of drawers from this period so we got lucky with this one.

Unusually it has 3 escutcheon keyholes per drawer rather than handles and the lovely canted top edge with more than a nod to the French Empire style that Swedish Biedermeier derived from. The column feet with ormulu detail topped by the ormulu pillars add a nice touch giving it a very elegant feel as well as very useful storage.

230cm antique 1800s Swedish Mora clock

Really clean example of the classic antique mora clock. It has original paint and is in excellent condition with a very cool nipped in waist and a lovely carved decorative hood ornament and a very nice clean face. Its not often we get mora clocks in as good condition as this one and i think the shape is especially appealing.

It has a particularly good aesthetic balance helped by the extra height and is one of the nicest clocks we have found in a while - remember most mora clocks are between 190-22ocm tall so the extra height is a rare addition.

Antique late 1800s Swedish Biedermeier footstool

This is a really super antique footstool in classic Biedermeier colours again with echoes of the French Empire tradition. Top grade golden birch veneers with lovely flame movement make it easy on the eye and the padded and webbed seat makes it comfy to use too.

You don't see these antique footstools very often so we were very pleased to find it - it could be a perfect match for an armchair, or as a piano stool or occasional chair in a hallway and your choice of fabric will dictate whether it looks traditional or more cutting edge modern.

 Antique 224cm Swedish Mora clock

Very pretty mora clock with a good height and excellent detailing. It's in good condition with the original mechanism and pendulum and has a good balance of features and a nipped in waist. The natural wood finish has an appealing appearance but it could also be repainted in a colour of your choice if you preferred. It has a clean face with AAS initials ( after the famous maker Anders Krang Anderson) and has obviously been loved and well cared for by the previous owner.

Early 1900s antique Swedish farmers Rococo Chairs

Very nice set of the classic Swedish Farmers Rococo chairs in oak. Cabriole style legs and higher backs make these a great match for the Gustavian dining tables but they are less heavy looking than their French counterparts. The higher backs makes for very comfortable seating and the webbed upholstered seat pads mean they are great to sit on. Of course we can repaint them for you in a colour of your choice if you wish - then they can match your dining room decor.
