Mora clocks represent a unique slice of Swedish national heritage and craftsmanship as relevant now as when they were made in the early 1800s.

These rare Mora longcase (grandfather-style) clocks were handcrafted by rural artisans across Sweden from around 1790-1850.

Each clock was unique and had its own personality and that of its maker.

They were often painted in folk-art styles with soft curves for the lower end country models.  Mora clocks made for city dwellers featured grandiose design, wood and gesso carving , gilt and trompe l’oeil finishes giving them a distinctive and classic Scandinavian aesthetic.

They even come in Biedermeier style finishes with rich french polish and ormolu detailing.

They really  reflect the ingenuity of the Swedish rural communities who made them with elegant, handcrafted designs  that make them highly sought-after in interior design circles.

Mora clocks come in so many finishes  finishes and styles from distressed antique wood to sleek OTT carved gilded variants that you are bound to find one that matches your interior design vision.

You can opt for an antique Mora clock with intricate carvings and patina to make a statement or  a white or pastel-colored more subtle Mora clock that blends beautifully with your choice of interior.

So where can you put an antique mora clock?

The Entryway to you home is always a good option so the mora clock stands guard over your home and life. It makes an elegant first impression on visitors to your home and catches your eye every time you get home.

Or you can try the living room or dining room for a grander style of mora clock to accent the space and give the eye a pleasing tableau standing tall at 220-240cm.

For something more restrained, the bedroom and kitchen are great environments for simpler country style mora clocks maybe in a soft blue or grey fionish and shorter in height around 195-200cm.

Since Mora clocks often have these soft, muted tones you can pair them with natural materials like linen and wool in your upholstery and woody textures or classic taupe walls.

The more Neutral Scandinavian colours (whites, beiges, greys) work well pretty much everywhere but its better to have a neutral backdrop for a highly decorative mora clock make the clock stand out and be the star of the show.
