set of 4 swedish gustavian roseback dining chairs vintage

We recently completed a refurbishment job for a client who bought a 250cm long antique Swedish Gustavian dining table and Gustavian dining chairs from us back in 2013.

The Swedish Gustavian dining table was in good condition showing that these tables are great for everyday use and still looked really smart – She wanted to change the colour of the dining set to match the dining room in her new house so we resprayed the dining table and chairs for her in portland stone which is a great colour.

Working on this Swedish Gustavian dining table reminded me of what a great centre piece the Gustavian styled table makes in a dining room setting.

It is very versatile as the Gustavian style is a classic look that can work in both traditional and modern settings. The detailing around the table edge can be picked out in gold or silver or a contrasting colour or colour matched to the rest of the table.

The legs have the lovely fluting and carved rose details on the leg top which again can be picked out in a variety of colours and we can also distress and antique the table too.

But in a more modern setting, you can twist the design by using modern colour schemes, black chinese lacquer or high sheen spray finish with matching or contrasting aspects on the detail.

The Gustavian dining chairs are always structurally solid and comfortable to sit on but with elevated detail that draws the eye and again you can use accented colour detailing to make the carvings pop out visually or you can mix base colour of the chairs – perhaps 3 in white and 3 in black.

The choice of upholstery too for your Gustavian dining chairs makes a huge difference between a traditional look or a more modern or even pop art feel.
