Swedish Interior Design

I love placing little stories around the house … someone passing may just see a cluster of silver spoons wrapped in lace siting on a sideboard … I see my mormor’s ( Swedish grandma ) silver spoons that she collected every year for me as a child until I was sixteen …. I wrapped them in a piece of lace given as a gift by someone special …

My beautiful mother made this bust … she had it in her art studio in England … I begged her for it …. I dont think she thought it was any good but I loved it …. oh she hummed and hahhed …. but of course she gave in …. when I see this I see my mother on that day surronded by paint, canvases and the winter sunshine that seeped  through her studio windows ….

I saw this in someone’s studio … they weren’t selling it … I went there for an entirly different reason … but it was Jo, my husband  staring at me from the wall … the artist agreed to sell it to me … it was his birthday coming up so I painted it white … to go with our living room of course … and when I see it I see Jo of course … he loved it by the way ..

I made this one christmas … found a wreath and wrapped lace, string of lights and muslin strips around it … I then placed white decorations on it  so I could keep it up all year round …  (all decorations were special finds with a story or gifts from various close friends )  .. I now have it hanging below the chandelier in the bedroom ….

This bust has the best story of all …. years ago I went on a writing holiday to complete an album I had coming out …. I rushed out to get lunch halfway through completing a new song … I bumped into a lady … trails of the song still singing in my head … she wanted me to come in for tea …. I said I was too busy … … it was raining, she was cloaked in a old blue raincoat and and had been made invisible by time … I didn’t see her … really see her … she asked me again,  she said she was lonely … I just saw an old lady … she only lived across the road …….. the song I was writing at the time was about really seeing the heart of the person and not the outside …. I eventually agreed to have tea … for surly that was what life was about … the meeting of hearts … not the ‘doings’ …. we had an amazing time …. she gave me this bust before I left … a reminder to always look in … look in at the heart …
have a lovely weekend Madeleine x
